Have you struggled to stay consistent with your goals? One day you are super excited to start this new journey then maybe one week later your motivation just dies or you get sick? Same. I've been there and it's not a easy thing to break. I have found over the years a few tips and tricks to keep you consistent and realistic with your goals.
Now let's get in to it.
Grab a piece of paper or on your phone and write down your goal.
Ask yourself "Is this realistic?" As in getting abs in 2 weeks just won't happen but if you want to lose body fat over the next 2-4 months that is achievable.
What do you need to achieve your goal? e.g. Personal trainer, nutritionist, gym, cute outfit etc.
Take action on those steps listed in step 3. (Note: it is easier to be consistent when you have someone that holds you accountable).
Treat it like it is an appointment. It is a lot harder to cancel when you treat it as an appointment than a chore.
Give yourself time to adapt. You won't be perfect and that's ok. Be kind to yourself.
Good things take time. Consistency is key to seeing progress in anything.
My personal Story
Lately I have been struggling with my new running goal. At the beginning of the year I decided to take up running. I am not a runner at all. I would always get bad shinsplints every time I tried.
Anyways I decided I would give it a good shot at improving my running. I already had the expensive running shoes and millions of active wear, all I needed was to get running. Skip forward a few months I decided to cut down my goal.
Each week I wanted to get in 3 runs per week. I think I hit that goal maybe once or twice but realistically that wasn't achievable for me and just made me feel guilty when I missed a run. So this week I decided I would cut it down to 2 runs per week. That I can achieve and maybe if I feel like I have time for a third run then I can add that in that week but 2 is my goal and 2 is realistic for me at the moment. Now when I say run I mean 2.5/2.8km runs.
Once you get into running you really find out how long 1km is. I am still very slow but my running pace is steady so that is where I am seeing progress. For this I really had to drop my ego and just continue to try. My dog also loves to come on my runs with me, he gets to pee on everything and say hi to all the other neighbourhood dogs haha
