Guess what I found on Pinterest...

Updated: May 5, 2021

This morning I was scrolling on Pinterest and can across a post with the words "12 habits of girls who always stay skinny" across it. Now going off the title I thought it was complete BS then I decided to click it and read these interesting “facts” some I agree with to the point of just being healthy and mindful of what you eat and living a healthy lifestyle but then I saw some completely ridiculous ones.

I won’t go over all 12 habits they stated but here are a few I did find interesting. When wanting to lose weight or even just live a healthy life you should always try to find a balance. No food is good nor bad for you. Chocolate is not bad as long as it’s in moderate. Carbohydrates are not the enemy of fat loss but nutrients for your body to burn for energy.

One of the things they mentions was cooking at home. The benefit of cooking at home is that you know exactly what you are putting into your food. By cooking at home you will know exactly what is in your food and what you are consuming plus it does end up to be cheaper so that’s a bonus.

In the article it mentioned that skinny girls exercise every day and weigh themselves every day to make sure if they gain weight they can adjust their routine to then lose the weight. So many things are wrong with this... 1. Due to females mentersal cycles your weigh and hormones fluctuate. One day would could consume more water/be constapated or just bloated... the scale will say you’ve gained weight yet if you weigh yourself in a few days you’ll most likely drop back down to your original weight. You can also make adjustments to your liking or dietary requirements. Also you can save so much money cooking at home. If you do like eating out you can also make your meals healthy depending on what you get but it is an option.

Now one of my favourites… they said to stop eating meat. If you want to stop eating meat for whatever reason whether that is by religion or choice it is very important you still get the right nutrition from the other sources of food you choice to eat. Meat is a very easy option to get in your protein but it is not the only option. There are several plant based options as well and if you are interested in finding them out let me know and I can go deeper into that topic another time but for now I’ll keep it short. Protein is very important in your day to day bodily functions so that is why it is crucial to keep it at the right amount for your body, then it goes to carbohydrates and fats which are relatively easy to eat when you don’t eat meat but then you also have to monitor how much you eat. Just because you give up something does not mean it will make you skinny.

The last one I will cover for today, they exercise daily. Now I see their point in this but I don’t agree with it. I have worked out daily before and I have worked out 2-3 times a week before. Exercising daily can be good and bad depending on the exercise you are doing. For example if you do 3 gym sessions a week with 2 bike rides and a walk a week then that’s great well done you but if you are going to the gym 7 days a week doing intense workouts then you are digging yourself a nice deep hole. You are not giving your body time to recover. During your workout you are tearing your muscles to make them strong and if you do that every day then when are you expecting your body to recover? I have swung between overtraining and not wanting to drain at all because you honestly just get burnt out and bored of it all. In my opinion overtraining is more of a mental struggle than a physical one. Don’t get me wrong overtraining sucks, you are constantly sore but when you know you should take a rest day and you feel like cant that is a whole other struggle. Active exercise 3 to 4 times per week is great to aim for then after that you are better of going for a nice walk with your coffee or if you really want to do some work on your rest day then do some deep cleaning in your house. It might not seem hard but it really is a workout and bonus your house will look great!

Thats my little rant for today. If you are interested in nutrition and exercise please feel free to ask me any questions you might have and I will be happy to answer them as best as I can.
